You can help pave the way to a better future for children in poor communities in Ghana by hosting a back-to-school drive. Back-to-school drives can take place at any time of the year, in any location. No matter where you live or what you do, you can help make a difference in the life of a child by hosting a back-to-school drive at your school, church, office or club.

Not ready to host a back-to-school drive? You can donate one (or more) back-to-school packs through a financial gift today.

Step 1

Register your back-to-school drive below. You can host a church group, Birthday Club, school or community drive and more.

Step 2

Spread the word. We’ll send you everything you need to promote your drive!

Step 3

Collect items such as bags, stationaries, and shoes. Consider offering the option to donate money to help cover the costs of shipping. If everyone who donates packs also donates $10 to $50, it can help cover your shipping costs at the end of the drive.

Step 4

Ship packs. Ship or deliver the packs you collected to Sanctuary for children’s office in Accra-Ghana.

When you register your back-to-school drive, a Coordinator will liaise with you.

WHAT WE DO

Why back-to-school, though?

A new back-to-school pack puts child on a path to health and organizes him.
In poor communities in Ghana, children go to school barefooted or in tattered shoes in muddy and rocky terrain. With bare feet, parasites and diseases like hookworm, jiggers and tetanus can enter the body through cuts in the feet. These illnesses can stunt a child’s growth and development physically, but also cause lifelong mental damage. They also attend school without bags and stationeries or sometimes use rice sacks as school bags, making their inadequate books crumpled and dirty. Shoes can protect against disease and infection, whilst bags keep their stationaries organized.

A new back-to-school pack removes the barrier to education.
Most schools require children to wear shoes to attend but for many poverty-stricken families, shoes and bags are a luxury they can’t afford. Studies show higher attendance in school increases children’s chances of obtaining an education – and rising out of poverty.
